Servindi, december 3, 2018.- Due to the climatic catastrophe that planet Earth is experiencing, delegates of the indigenous peoples arrive to the distant city of Katowice, in Poland, to make hear the voices of the tropical forests.
It is scientifically demonstrated that indigenous peoples are the best conservators of ecosystems and that their territories are the richest in biodiversity.
It is also demonstrated that indigenous territories are the ones that better slow the deforestation advance and the best defense against the various aggressions suffered by the lung through which the planet breathes.
However, indigenous peoples are the least listened to by decision makers and many governments ignore and undermine their participation in climate decisions.
The lack of climate funds that directly benefit indigenous communities, the exclusion of their proposals for mitigation, the lack of sustained support for adaptation are some of the injustices suffered by native peoples.
The main indigenous organizations of the Amazon articulated in the Coordinadora de Organizaciones Indígenas de la Cuenca Amazónica (COICA) and the Asociación Interétnica de Desarrollo de la Selva Peruana (AIDESEP) have already arrived in Katowice.
They will speak without intermediaries about the forests they feel, understand and defend better than anyone else.
