– More than two hundred women from the Andean and Amazonian regions of Peru will meet in Lima from 25 to 27 of November.
Servindi, 19 November, 2015.- Under the motto Walking Towards Buen Vivir, the National Organization of Andean and Amazonian Indigenous Women of Peru (ONAMIAP) will hold its Third National Congress in Lima.
The event, which takes place every three years, aims to strengthen and empower indigenous women of Peru and its organizational processes at local, regional and national levels.
From 25 to 27 of November 2015, more than two hundred leaders from fifteen Andean and Amazonian regions will share their progress on ONAMIAP political agenda, making visible their demands and proposals.
Strengthening and renewing
The Congress will formally incorporate all the grassroots organizations that have applied for ONAMIAP membership.
In addition, as a democratic exercise the Board of Directors will be renewed for the period of 2016-2018.
ONAMIAP delegates will share experiences on five themes: Land and territory; Climate change and food sovereignty; Political participation of indigenous women; Combating violence against women; Identity, self-identification and indigenous institutions.
Leaders of other national indigenous organizations, directors of allied institutions and civil society associations and representatives of various government agencies are invited to this celebration.
Finally, the plenary of ONAMIAP delegates will elect their representatives for the new National Executive Council and regional coordinators, who will assume their duties on April 2016, until March 2019.
